What started out as daily emails for my boys in MTBA has now been turned into my first ever blog, thanks to DJ. For the "football handicapped", I have included other sports reference, so that you can enjoy this as much as your hooligan colleague next door. Will be waiting for your responses. Watch it.

Germany 4 Costa Rica 2; Poland 0 Ecuador 2

Germany 4
Cost Rica 2

The host decided to show up and do some damage. This is the 1st world cup where they have decided not to have the opening ceremony followed by a match. Germany football authority (DFB) decided not to have the opening ceremony, because it will damage the turf before the match. Not that it really mattered, but so be it.

The match itself was a goal fest, but it wasn’t a good game. As you may have sort of guessed that germany isn’t fielding a very strong team as a host. They kind of suck. The most famous player on the team is ballack and ...that’s about it. If you do follow football, you may come across schweinsteiger and podolski and klose and schneider and frings and what not, but I don’t blame you if these names mean nothing to you. This is perhaps 2 percent better than the team that went to the finals in 2002. But I am telling you now that they will goto the semi finals. Why? Because they are hosting the damn thing and as you have seen the ridiculous officiating in the 2002 korea v italy match, you know the host nation at the very least NEED to get the semi final. You have read it here first.

Ryu’s “Holly mother fuckin’ shiznit” goal of the day:

Torsten Frings (Germany, 4th goal) blinder, belter, whatever you want to call it to slam shut the door for the rican ricans.

Off to the match. Obviously germany is better than costa rica. Costa rica made it from the same group where usa, mexico, and trinidad and tobago came through. In another word, they suck as well. They and angola, trinidad, saudi arabia, and some other crappy team, in my delicate mind, should not be there as they are not even close to the level the others are playing. Case in point, this match.

After a patrick lahm nicety from the left wing (strange as he is a natural righty), the match became how many goals should germany score to win the match. The answer was 3, and torsten frings added a beauty at the end to seal the match. The other two from klose was a product of shitty defending by the costa ricans, but the 2 goals that germany conceded were rubbish. One was an offside and the other one was a miscommunication of the two centre backs.

You might be wondering, “If germany is that bad, how come they scored 4 goals and won the match?” you really have to understand that the group that germany is in (group a) sucks the big one. It’s so obvious that it’s been rigged, and I was watching the match with bated breath, as the occasional costa rican counter attacks made my heart skip a beat. Germany, especially at the back (in defence) are atrocious. Some have said that the manager, jurgen klinsmann has spent way too much time “chillin’” with the homies out west in cali. I sort of think with the players they’ve got, they will be lucky to get out of the group stage if the cup was held in some other country other than germany.

They will get out of this group at the top and expect some dodgey calls till their way to the semi-final.

Group A
Poland 0
Ecuador 2

What? Poland, the expected runners-up of this group gets bamboozled by the ecuadorian. I don’t even know where in south america ecuador is, but they can play. I have to say that I didn’t see the 1st goal and I only caught the last 18 minutes of the match, but poland have had enough chances, but seems they have failed to capitalize. Since poland will play germany and cost rica and ditto for ecuador, I now see ecuador going through, granted they lose or draw to germany and win against the costa costans. Nothing really intersting except for the fact that one of my ex-girlfriend is from poland and I got tempted to give her a call and tell her that her team was crap.

:)

Off to silverstone tomorrow for work, but I will do my write up for the crucial (yes, it always is) england opener against paraguay and subsequent matches.
